EDUCATION
At Wellington Opera, education is an important part of our commitment to the future of opera in Aotearoa. We aim to inspire curiosity, creativity, and appreciation for the performing arts by connecting students and emerging artists with the professional world of opera.
Through a range of programmes and experiences, participants can learn how an opera production is created — from the first rehearsal to opening night.
Our education initiatives provide meaningful opportunities for students, singers, and young creatives to develop their skills while experiencing the collaborative environment of a professional opera company.

Wellington Opera offers internship opportunities across various areas of production and administration.
Internships provide hands-on experience within a professional performing arts organisation. Participants may gain exposure to areas such as:
Interns work alongside experienced professionals and gain valuable insight into the day-to-day operations of an opera company.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES
Emerging singers may be offered opportunities to serve as covers or participate in smaller performance roles within Wellington Opera productions. These opportunities allow singers to observe rehearsals, learn from established performers, and develop their understanding of professional opera performance. Working closely with directors, conductors, and répétiteurs provides valuable experience for those pursuing a career in opera.
COACHING
Wellington Opera periodically offers coaching opportunities for singers wishing to develop their vocal technique and musical interpretation. Coaching sessions may involve working with professional vocal coaches, conductors, and répétiteurs to refine repertoire and performance skills. These sessions support the development of emerging singers and help prepare them for professional performance opportunities.
SCHOOLS PROGRAMME
Wellington Opera also invites schools to attend selected dress rehearsals during our production seasons. These experiences allow students to see a full opera production — including costumes, staging, and orchestra — just before opening night. Dress rehearsals provide a unique educational experience for music, drama, and performing arts students.
